In short
You can switch payroll provider to Buffalo Payroll at any point in the tax year. We take over your year-to-date figures, PAYE references and pension setup so no one's pay is affected, and onboarding typically takes days rather than months.

Common reasons people switch to us
- Errors on payslips or with HMRC that keep coming back
- Never speaking to the same person twice
- Price rises with no improvement in service
- An accountant who no longer wants to run payroll
- Outgrowing a spreadsheet or doing it yourself
How switching works
- Quick call. We'll talk through your payroll, pay frequency and pension arrangements and give you a clear quote.
- We collect the data. A recent payroll report, year-to-date figures for each employee, your PAYE reference and pension provider details. We'll tell you exactly what to ask your old provider for.
- We set up and check. We build your employer and employee records, import year-to-date figures and reconcile them against your last payroll.
- First pay run. We process your first payroll and send you a summary to approve before anything is submitted.
Onboarding typically takes days, not months.
Can I switch mid-year?
Yes. You don't need to wait for April. Because we take on each employee's year-to-date pay, tax and National Insurance, calculations continue seamlessly and P60s at year-end will be correct. Switching at the start of a tax year can be slightly simpler, but it's never essential.
What you'll need

- Employee details: names, addresses, NI numbers, tax codes, start dates and pay rates
- Year-to-date figures from your last payroll
- Pension scheme details and login access
- Any student loans, attachments of earnings or statutory payments in progress
